Parade Grand Marshal

The Grifton Shad Festival Committee is pleased to announce that David Bosley is this year’s Parade Grand Marshal. David Bosley, a West Virginia native, came to Kinston in 1954, joining the Dacron® Research Laboratory at the Kinston manufacturing site. After a two-year interruption for military service and starting a family, the family moved to Grifton, attracted by the excellent reputation of its school and proximity to the Dacron®  plant. There he became involved in community development projects, which led to creation of the Shad Festival and his involvement with town government, where he served as mayor for 12 years. During that time he represented North Carolina’s towns and cities on the Land Policy Council, a statewide advisory group. After early retirement from Du Pont, he did consulting work with the textile industry upstate. He is now retired from that as well and lives with his daughter in Cary. He recently celebrated his 90th birthday. Be sure to greet Mayor Bosley when you see him at the Shad Festival!
