Fishy Tales (Lying Contest)

Each year, the Grifton Shad Festival holds its annual Fish Tales event. The event is for school children as well as adults. Each participant tells a whopper of a story – often related to catching a huge fish or coming across a talking fish or any interesting story that defies truth. The stories are most likely to bring a laugh or two! Some participants even dress the part to be more believable.

Amy Hahn, our Grifton School Media Coordinator, organizes the event and acts as our Mistress of Ceremonies.

Fishy Tales is sponsored each year by Kelly Buck Mooring, owner of Hwy 55, Grifton, NC. Kelly is known to have special Fishy Tales shirts for participants and maybe even a Hwy 55 gift certificate or two.

Come to the Grifton School Media Center on Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 5:45 p.m. Let’s see who can tell the biggest whopper!
