Parade Guidelines:

1. Parade Application and Waiver Form must be completed and submitted by email through this website or printed and mailed to Grifton Shad Festival, P.O. Box 928, Grifton, NC 28530 by April 6, 2024. 2. MUSIC – any music played must be suitable for family friendly atmosphere. 3. CARS – All car doors must remain closed while in movement. 4. CARS, GOLF CARTS, MOTORCYCLES, AND FLOATS – All must have a sign or banner on each side to identify your group or business. 5. TROPHIES – Entries will be judged as they pass the parade reviewing stand. Trophies will be awarded at 12:00 Noon at the reviewing stand for (a) Best Band, (b) Best Marching Unit, (c) Best Representation of a fish or fishing activity, (d) Best overall (e) Best Theme Representation "Bubbles Up".

ROUTE:

1. Line-up is at 9:15 a.m. 2. Marching bands, other marching units, walking entries, parade grand marshal, and other dignitaries will line up in the parking lot of Grifton School. Miss Grifton and Miss Grifton contestants will line up in the circular driveway in front of Grifton School. All other entries will line up on Dawson Street. 3. Participants will be merged into the parade line up from Dawson Street and the circular driveway and the school parking lot of Grifton School as directed by parade officials.

The Parade Committee reserves the right to deny entrance to parade for: Late arrivals Entries that do not comply with guidelines Entries deemed inappropriate or unsafe

Media Categories

Painting – acrylic, oil, watercolor

Fiber Art – textile, weaving, quilting, basketry , etc.

Graphic Art/Drawing: graphic design, illustration, computer art, pencil, pastel,

pen & ink, charcoal, etc.

Photography – traditional, digital

Three-Dimensional – sculpture, ceramics, jewelry , wood, glass, metal, paper, etc.

Age Categories

Child (under age 13)

Young Adult (age 13 – 18)

Adult (Amateur – art is a hobby) (Professional – sells their work)

Eligibility

The Shad Festival Art Show competition is open to all North Carolina Artists

The show is limited to 250 entries

All entries must be original works, completed within the past five years, and have not been

submitted to previous Shad Festival Art Shows

Grifton Shad Festival reserves the right to deny entry to inappropriate subject matter

Entry Fees

Up to three entries per artist may be submitted for a non-refundable fee of $5.00 per entry

Payable by cash or check made payable to Grifton Shad Festival

Children and young adults are not required to pay a fee for entries

Condition of Entries

All framed artwork must be secured with wire for hanging. No saw-tooth hangers allowed

Any piece requiring special materials for display are the responsibility of the artist

Small items (i.e., jewelry) must be encased by artist for safe display

Only hand delivered art with appropriate tags and entry forms will be accepted

Art for sale should be priced on the tag. If not for sale, mark NFS. Sales of art will be

between buyer and seller

Art Submission and Pickup

Submit art at Shad Shack located at 6851 Pitt Street, Grifton, NC

Tuesday , April 2, 2024, from 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Thursday , April 4, 2024, from 2:30 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Saturday , April 6, 2024, from 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.

Tuesday , April 9, 2024, from 3:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

Art must remain on display until 5:00 p.m. on Sunday , April 21, 2024

Art must be picked up and checked out according to the number on each piece. Student work

will be returned to the school by the Art Show Committee.

Judging

Judging will be accomplished after April 9, 2024 and prior to April 18, 2024

Prizes awarded in each category

Liability

The best possible care will be taken in the handling of all art work while in our possession.

The Grifton Shad Festival and its representatives will not be held responsible for damage or

loss due to any cause. All works will be displayed indoors.
